Welcome to the world of Experiential Education - Philosophy, Methods and Practice. This course provides a dynamic exploration into pedagogical methods used in experiential education.
For Whom: Trainers, Facilitators, Coaches, Teachers, Outdoor Educators or anyone who works with groups to create meaningful learning experiences.
Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this course, participants will have
• The ability to create safe environments while working with groups /classroom settings
• The skills required to ignite young minds through the ability to create appropriate challenges for them in and outside the classroom.
• Skills to apply principles of Experiential education in the context of groupwork / classroom settings.
• Skills to assess one’s own ability and a personal philosophy about Experiential Education, and how to apply it in various contexts.
• Methodology:
Didactic-50% (presentations, lecture), Discussion – 25%,
Activity – 25%.
• Eligibility: 19 years age, and fluency in English.
Duration - 9 weekends, One weekend per month starting 13-14 July 2019.

Course Content
• The Program offers insights to the following :
1. Creating Safe Environments :
• Looks at brain-body theory so as enhance learning.
• Addresses learner environments, and methods that empower individuals and learners.
• Attitudes that educators could adopt in order to help create safe environments for learners.
• Invitational Education Principles.
• Create places that are safe socially and emotionally.
• Work with difficult situations and conversations with people and oneself.
• Learning to address emotion – the gateway to learning.
2. Understanding Learning:
• How learning happens - and Bloom’s taxonomy.
• Bringing about Learning in Different environments.
• Kolb’s Learning styles and how that can be used to understand our audience better.
• How different styles can be used to reach out to learners.
• History and validity of experiential learning models – Kurt Hahn, Dewey and some contemporary approaches.
• Susan Kovalik’s 9 elements that affect learning.
3. Group Work
• Enhancing Learning by being part of a group or team of like - minded learners.
• Understand how groups develop in order to offer what works for learning.
• Differentiated learning, collaborative learning and Project-based methods and how they can be used for short and long-term interventions.
• Using activities appropriate to the stages of group development – activity hierarchy.
4. Creating & Designing Learning Experiences.
• Create a variety of experiences make learning more engaging and meaningful.
• Activity hierarchy – knowing when to use which activity, and how.
• Using a variety of props in creative ways.
• Designing activities to deliver specific outcomes.
• Making classrooms experiential.
• Frameworks
5. Facilitating Reflection.
• Creating meaning and transferring the learning back into future experiences.
• Understand the value of facilitation.
• A history of facilitation techniques.
• Reviewing in stages.
• Perspectives on facilitation.
• Models in facilitation.
• Self - Facilitation
The program will be conducted starting July 13th and 14th in Hyderabad over the next 9 months.
Location: Lumbini Montessori School, Khairtabad.
Facilitator: Vishwas Parchure, who facilitates this program, brings over 30 years of expertise in experiential practice, in a plethora of spheres, besides being instrumental in developing and mentoring educators worldwide.
